"I cannot express it; but surely you and everybody have a notion that there is, or should be an existence of yours beyond you. What were the use of creation if I were entirely contained here? My great miseries in this world have been Heathcliff's miseries, and I watched and felt each from the beginning; my great thought in living is himself. If all else perished and he remained,I would still continue to be. If all else remain and he were annihilated, the universe would remain a mighty stranger:I should not seem a part of it. My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods. Time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees — my love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath — a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Heathcliff — he's always, always in my mind — not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself — but as my own being "- Catherine Earnshaw, Wuthering Heights
You read the book?
ReplyDeleteanother over-rated piece of literature...boring too...and even so I actually finished it...
Maybe at that time in history this kinda love might have been something...between Catherine and Heathcliff...calling it demonic, insanely passionate etc...but in today's world its become a common sight...or at least people perceive they feel the same way about their significant other...and say its so...
PS : L'arc en ciel is awesome...until now its only been Driver's High,Flower...etc...but finally got a complete great hits album of theirs and I'm trippin on the music...got a feeling life is gonna get worse but as always running away helps or maybe I just don't care...:D
I loved the movie. Never had the patience to finish the unabridged version, but I did read the abridged version when I was 15.
ReplyDeleteI always felt 'Mary Reilly' was based on 'Wuthering Heights'. You seen that movie or read the book?

ReplyDeletebetween Catherine and Heathcliff...calling it demonic, insanely passionate etc.---> coz it was incestous too
Tried reading the book many times... but found it kind of boring :P ...But I do love this quote though :) Edward quotes it in the Twilight series ;)
